Convex Face: Offers high penetration rates in soft to medium-hard formations with low to medium air pressures. Resistant to steel wash and reduces load and wear on gauge buttons, but may have poor hole deviation control.
Flat Face: Suitable for hard to very hard and abrasive rock formations with high air pressures. Provides good penetration rates and resistance to steel wash.
